Anguilla is one of the Caribbean’s most exclusive islands, but that doesn’t mean it’s not for everybody. While most of Anguilla’s 33 beaches are home to palatial villas and luxury resorts (with their vacationing rocks stars and A-list actors) one budget boutique resort stands proudly in a league of its own. Offering comfortable rooms, suites, and even villas overlooking legendary Mead’s Bay at more than reasonable rates, Anacaona tops the list of our favourite four-star resorts in the entire Caribbean.

Locally owned and operated, Anacaona is a wonderful blend of stylish decor and authentic Anguillian vibe that radiates throughout the 27 units like sunshine. The standard and superior hotel rooms are each uniquely designed with all the comforts you need to enjoy your stay - and it gets better from here on up. The Junior Suites feature small kitchens to make your own meals and covered balconies to take in the epic sunsets, along with jetted tubs in the black granite-finished bathrooms. The two- and three-bedroom villas feature full kitchens and ensuite bathrooms, helping to create an ambience of both bliss and beauty.

While Anacaona isn’t directly on the beach, it’s but a short jaunt to the white sand of Mead’s Bay where beach service will bring you down a frozen cocktail; plus you’ve got the entire island to explore and find the perfect stretch of beach to call your own - often literally, as many of the beaches are wide open and free of other travelers. The hotel also has two pools, one with an open-air bar. If you want to be around other cool people, there’s just the thing for that, too. Anacaona is situated near Sandy Ground - the island’s party capital, full of live music and energetic beach bars. But when it comes to reaching the internal state of total relaxation, Anacaona has the just thing, offering wonderful massage therapy and a range of juicy treatments in the garden pavilions. Try the hydrotherapy colon cleanse! (No, really). Or just start your days with a complimentary yoga class to harmonize the system.

There’s some awesome restaurants on Mead’s Bay to try out, like the über-cool Jacala with its bean bag chairs on the beach; lobster rolls at the laid back Blanchard’s; or one of the top 50 hot new restaurants in the world at The Straw Hat. And right on-site at Anacaona is Firefly Restaurant and Bar, a poolside patio with a delicious buffet that often includes a full pig roast. If you’re here on a Thursday, be sure to catch the local Mayoumba Folkloric Theatre group performing an interpretive history of Anguilla through spirited song, dance, and comedy.
